Despite being a young institution with only 25 years of experience, since its origins the National University of San Martín (UNSAM) has built bridges with prestigious public agencies of science and technology to contribute in the development of R&D&I and an excellent innovation campus.
Nowadays, more than 400 researchers and 340 scholarship holders carry out their scientific and technological activities in the Miguelete Campus and the other venues the University has in Buenos Aires City, San Martín, Ezeiza and Chascomús.
The University has more than 50,000 square metres of offices and laboratories with first class equipment where students, professors, entrepreneurs, scientists, technical personnel and service staff coexist in a stimulating atmosphere for the development of creative capabilities and the diverse expressions of talent.
UNSAM is also part of a technology park in Buenos Aires Province (Polo Tecnológico Constituyentes) and has forged alliances with the most important research institutions in the country: the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), the National Commission for Space Activities (CONAE), the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) and the National Agricultural Technology Institute (INTA).

School of Politics and Government
The School of Politics and Government has positioned itself as a national and regional reference point in political science undergraduate and graduate programs and scientific production. Its goals are the following:
- To support the development of research projects accredited and funded by national and international agencies.
- To promote outreach activities and technical assistance projects with State and social actors.
- To foster dialogue and exchange among its members by carrying out monthly research seminars and annual workshops.
- To guide researchers and PhD candidates as regards publishing strategies and venues, as well as the circulation of their research findings and outputs.
The School is also home to five centers that undertake teaching, research and technical assistance activities:
- Territory and Development Studies Center (CEDET)
- Political History Studies Center (CEHP)
- Federal and Electoral Studies Center (CEFE)
- Economic Development Research Center (IDeAS)
- Sports Studies Center (CED)
Past and ongoing research projects cover five major areas:
- Public policies: Policy areas such as health, welfare, environment, education, transportation, development, and gender at different scales (municipal, provincial, national, and cross-country)
- Political parties, public opinion, and elections: Federalism and party systems, multilevel electoral governance, public opinion and electoral behavior, executive leadership, and media and political discourse in Argentina and Latina America
- Social movements and participation: Grassroots organizations and welfare policies, social protest and mobilization around environmental and gender issues, and citizen participation in the formulation and implementation of public policies
- Economy, development, and regional integration: Development strategies, small-firm’s initiatives, Mercosur integration, Argentina-China exchange strategies, and public purchase transparency
- Political history: Historiographic projects on elite formation, electoral traditions, cultural cooperation, party and mass media, development models, and political ideas such republicanism, democracy, and liberalism
Continuing with the development of the research areas mentioned above and building upon its cooperation with the Università degli Studi Roma Tre and other European universities, the School is currently committed to develop three main areas in cooperation with European institutions:
- Comparative studies of leadership and political parties: This research line will be devoted to study the transformations in political representation both in Europe and in Latin America, focusing on the similarities and differences between the two regions. Phenomena of interest include the transformations of political parties and electoral politics and the emergence of new types of leadership.
- Comparative studies of social mobilization and citizen participation: This research line will aim to study the new forms of mobilization and participation that have emerged in Europe and Latin America, which call for a renewed theoretical approach to participation. This approach should include a new view on the relationship between State and society, as well as a novel consideration of such phenomena as the increasing resort to direct democracy mechanisms and the use of new communication and information technologies.
- Transnational issues: Relying on the recently-created international relations area within the School, this research line will address transnational issues such as environmental protection, transnational infrastructure projects, international security markets, and human rights advocacy and regulation.
